I first met Dee in 2018 when I was posted in Paris as a Third Secretary and Vice Consul. Dee is a ray of sunshine; she always has a ready smile, a charming face, and a vivacious personality.
Dee is currently working in UNESCO as a Project Assistant in the Education Sector. She is also busy as a TFC Region Coordinator.
As one of the “partners” of the Philippine Embassy in Paris. She has participated actively in some of the Embassies cultural projects such as the Fiesta Filipinas and a documentary about Dr. Jose Rizal in France titled “Retracing Jose Rizal’s Footsteps in France,” a project that I was closely involved in from conceptualization to fruition.
Let’s get to know her more. 🙂
- When did you arrive in Paris? What were your plans when you came to the City?
I arrived in Paris in the autumn of 2014, with a heart full of hope and mind buzzing with dreams. Living and breathing the French vibe was more than just a wish. However, Paris itself is not solely defined by its glitz and glam. Beyond the luminous lights of the Eiffel Tower and the majestic sweep of the Champs-Élysées, I discovered a Paris that thrived in the quiet mornings by the Seine, in the bustling markets of Le Marais, and in the warmth of a simple café au lait shared with family and newfound friends. It was here, amidst the everyday beauty and the occasional challenges, that I truly found the essence of the Parisian spirit.

- How’s your work at UNESCO? What’s the greatest thing about it?
My journey with UNESCO began in 2017 as an HR assistant, a role that offered me a unique window into the organization’s dedication to fostering a diverse and dynamic work environment. Since then, I’ve transitioned to the position of Project Assistant within the Unit for Technology and Artificial Intelligence in education, under the Education sector.
The greatest thing about working at UNESCO is undoubtedly the sense of purpose that permeates every project and initiative. Being part of an organization that actively shapes global education policies and practices, especially in areas as pivotal as technology and AI, is both humbling and exhilarating. It’s inspiring to see firsthand the impact of our work on educational systems around the world, ensuring that technology enhances learning experiences and accessibility for all.
Every day, I’m surrounded by passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds, all united by a common goal: to create a more informed, inclusive, and interconnected world. This environment not only fosters professional growth but also enriches my personal worldview, making my journey with UNESCO a truly rewarding experience.

- How about your career as a region coordinator? Tell us about it.
I started as a news reporter with TFC in 2015 for Balitang Global. This role was more than just a job; it was an opportunity to deeply connect with the Filipino community in France, bridging stories of Filipinos abroad to our kababayans in the Motherland. It served as a link between the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora.
In 2017, I embraced the role of a host for KWorld, a lifestyle TV show under TFC that highlights the vibrancy and resilience of our community not just in the Middle East but also in Europe and Africa. KWorld opened up a new avenue for me to showcase stories that celebrate our heritage and the spirit of bayanihan that defines us wherever we are in the world. Balancing my role at KWorld with my full-time work was no small feat, yet it was incredibly rewarding. It allowed me to grow not just professionally but personally, expanding my understanding of our global community and the impact of our collective stories. Being a region coordinator and a media practitioner has been a journey of constant learning, adapting, and connecting, one that I am deeply grateful for.

- What are your hobbies and personal advocacies?
In my personal time, I read books. Music also plays a significant role in my life; I sing and play the piano. These hobbies not only provide me with a creative outlet but also serve as a sanctuary, a space for reflection and relaxation.
Beyond these personal passions, I am deeply committed to several advocacies such as Women empowerment – it stands at the forefront of my efforts, advocating for a world where women are recognized for their strength, intelligence, and capabilities, free from the constraints of societal expectations. Closely related is my fight against gender violence, a pervasive issue that I believe requires urgent attention and action from all sectors of society to protect and uplift those affected.
Moreover, promoting Filipino culture is a cause very close to my heart. Through my work and personal endeavors, I aim to contribute to a greater understanding and appreciation of what it means to be Filipino, fostering a sense of pride and unity among our global community.

- Last year, you gave birth to adorable Antoine. How do you balance your career and your motherhood?
It was a transformative experience that reshaped my life in the most beautiful way. Balancing a career while embracing motherhood has been a journey of love, learning, and incredible fulfillment. The key for me is having a strong support system – the support from my partner, family, and colleagues has been invaluable in creating a balance that benefits not just me but also those I work with and, most importantly, Antoine.
Motherhood has also taught me to be kinder to myself, accepting that not every day will be perfect and that it’s okay to seek help when needed. Celebrating small victories and finding joy in the everyday moments with Antoine has made all the challenges worthwhile.

- In your experience, what is the secret to your success and what advice would you give to women who want to explore a new life in a different country?
In reflecting on my journey and the milestones I’ve achieved, I realize that the secret to my success lies in a blend of resilience, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of growth. Embracing change, especially when it leads you to a new country, is both a challenge and an opportunity to discover your strengths and redefine your boundaries.
One piece of advice I would give to women looking to explore a new life abroad is to embrace the journey with an open heart and a resilient spirit. Change is inevitable, and it’s your response to change that defines your path. Be ready to adapt, learn, and grow from every new experience. The unfamiliar will soon become familiar, and in that process, you’ll discover new facets of yourself. Cultivate a support network. Connect with the local community and seek out others who have walked the path before you. Also, stay true to your roots and values.

- What challenges did you face as a woman and how did you handle those?
Navigating my career and personal life has presented a unique set of challenges, ranging from societal expectations to professional barriers. One significant challenge has been finding the balance between professional ambitions and personal responsibilities, a common theme many women encounter. There’s often an implicit expectation to excel in every role we undertake—be it as a professional, a mother, or a partner—while also facing the stereotype that our commitments outside of work might detract from our career dedication.
It’s more on embracing resilience and recognizing the importance of self-care and setting healthy boundaries. It’s important to acknowledge that we can’t do everything at once and that taking care of our mental and physical health enables us to be more effective in all areas of life. Finally, being true to myself. Instead of conforming to what I believed a successful woman ‘should’ be, I focused on carving out my own path, defined by my passions, strengths, and values.
- How would you describe your fellow Filipinos who have chosen a career in France? What can you say to those who want to work in France?
My fellow Filipinos who have chosen a career in France are a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the enduring spirit of the Filipino community. For those who dream of working in France, I say, go for it with all your heart, but also arm yourself with knowledge and preparation. France offers a wealth of opportunities, but it also presents its own set of challenges. Cultural integration is key. Embrace the French way of life, understand their work culture, and immerse yourself in the language.
Moving to a new country is a significant life change that can be both exhilarating and daunting. There will be moments of doubt and homesickness, but remember why you started this journey.

- What do you think, based on your observation, are the areas that the PH and France can explore more in terms of cultural cooperation?
Both countries have a strong tradition of arts – it could be programs to facilitate artists residencies, workshops and exhibitions. Also, with France’s advancements in cultural technology and digital art and the Philippines’ growing tech-savvy population, collaborative projects including digital art exhibitions, virtual reality experiences of cultural sites, and interactive educational platforms.
We also have our love for food – Joint culinary events, chef exchange programs, or fusion restaurant pop-ups could celebrate and innovate on the rich culinary traditions of both countries.
- In your opinion, which areas can the PH be proud of on the world stage?
The Philippines has numerous reasons to stand proud on the world stage. From our stunning natural landscapes to our vibrant festivals like Sinulog and Ati-Atihan to our own people- our hardworking and resilient Filipinos working abroad who have been globally recognized, to our Filipino artists gaining international recognition in music, film, and visual art and lastly, the Filipino cuisine and culinary tradition.
In these areas and many others, the Philippines truly makes its mark on the world stage. Masarap at nakaka-proud talaga maging isang PINOY! Our collective achievements and contributions across the globe affirm the strength and vibrancy of our identity. Let’s continue to uplift and celebrate the essence of being Filipino, carrying our pride and legacy with us wherever we go.

There you go, my dear readers.
