Small things, huge memories

It’s the weekend. A hectic 5 days has passed and tonight, I thought of writing something light — not about diplomacy but about accessories. ^_^

I love earrings. They’re small, light, stylish, varied. You may opt for the small ones that are not so visible, except if you look more closely. There are those that can be seen from a distance and begging for attention.

For me, earrings are souvenirs of my travels, of some momentous occasions, or of some special people. I buy them to keep with me some special snippets, a fleeting yet vivid memory. Or sometimes, I happened to pass by a shop and I liked the design.

Have a look at some of them:

A special friend bought me these earrings in Thailand, when I went there for a visit in 2023. The flower design captures a sunny disposition and a light spirit. In this photo, I was standing at a balcony in some small hotel in Bangkok, before my afternoon walk:

I also got earrings that mimic the hues of the sunset, from the Tuileries Garden Christmas Bazaar in Paris in December 2018. I chatted with the seller in basic French and I got the information that these were designed by a local jeweller. They’re beautiful, aren’t they! I got so enamored with these that I got another, but in blue that captures the ocean’s colors.

These next ones are from Barcelona, in a small stall in front of the La Sagrada Familia. According to the vendor, these were inspired by Antoni Gaudi’s art. Looking at the shapes and colors, I guess it might be true. I remember that the vendor almost failed to get the payment from me after giving the earrings because he had to leave hurriedly; the police were signalling at them to vacate the area.

Can’t find the other 2 photos. This one will do for now.

This elegant pair is from Abu Dhabi, particularly in Madinat Zayed. I got them for myself during our 10-day stay in the country for diplomatic training. I also got a pair for my Mom and for my daughter. I love the earrings’ simplicity. It’s tricolored so it may be worn with either gold or silver or bronze watch/bracelet/necklace.

A visit to the Korean Cultural Center in Taguig, in 2022

The next ones are similarly-designed but bigger gold hoop earrings from Paris. I ordered them from an online jewelry shop. They’re simple, but upon closer look, they have some decorative patterns, which enliven a simple outfit:

Meanwhile, these lovely light green, bouquet-like earrings, with diamond-like accents were given by my sister in the UK when I visited her several years back. I love them, especially when worn with simple blouse or dresses, but I don’t wear them often as they are bigger and heavier than my usual earrings.

The next ones are from Artefino in 2023. The design is a bit much for me, but I fell in love with them when I saw them. That time, I didn’t have any event in mind but I told myself, I’ll wear them during a special occasion. The perfect opportunity came when, two (2) months after, I was included in the set of officers qualified for the CA confirmation.

Capiz flower earrings. I got these from a Bazaar in the Department of Foreign Affairs. I love the material- very Filipino. They’re lightweight too. I wore them in different occasions/ office days as shown in these 2023 photos. ^_^

Waterdrop-shaped earrings with native beads. I rarely wear these. But they do fit artsy tops. Here are photos during PCIM 2023. Two (2) photos were taken while I was writing on/designing the PCIM wall:

I wore these stud earrings (sorry, not so visible from the photo) in Marrakech, Morocco in 2023. They merged with the surroundings’ colors in the early evening:

Also, I have varied kinds of pearl earrings, bought at different times, for different purposes (they looked great (mainly), they were on sale (haha!), they had some decorative dainty accent, they complemented what I was wearing during that time, etc.) Some pairs have gotten lost, some got discolored, a few I gave after buying…)

And there are many others with varied designs: dangling, hoop, round, square, dewdrop, made of various materials. Some, I wore once but realized that they weren’t my style; some I wear every so often.

I lost some pairs. Once, while walking in the streets of Paris, I flipped my shawl and lost a dangling, pearl earrings, In another instance, we were inside the Cartier shop to accompany a work colleague in selecting a watch. On my way out, I noticed that one of my pine green beaded earrings was missing, probably lying on the carpet, wanting to stay inside the luxurious shop. ^_^

This reminds me to organize my accessories. So, I should stop writing now and just do that.

To everyone, happy weekend. Please do something that will make you smile today. πŸ™‚
